Spring
Mar 25 2019It didn’t feel like it yesterday battling across the moors through the hail, thunder and lightening but I braved the storm – safe in the knowledge that this was just a blip, a moment of meteorological madness – that would soon pass – Spring really is upon us.
The arrival of spring always puts me in mind of new possibilities and I have a whole heap of fresh energy. The arrival of this season above all others signals the start of something spanking-new and potential is everywhere. I’m never quite sure that I harness this heady euphoria aside from the occasional and half-hearted sorting out of a sock draw. I’m always too busy to tune into nature’s firm hint that I could be (and should be) making a few more fundamental steps to spring-clean my psyche – find a new purpose – start something fresh – take a few risks.
But just how do we convert all this season’s potential into something more tangible and enduring. How can we create and sustain the changes we want before the long days and haze of summer takes a hold.
I have no ten-point plan, no formula or info-graphic – but here’s some coaching skewed thoughts on that springtime clear out.
Start by asking the question. What do you want? Revisit it and hone it.
Listen to the answer – set time aside to do so – MAKE time to do so. It might take a while – it’ll probably take a while – but stick with it.
Share these thoughts with friends and family – or keep it a secret – it’s up to you.
Work with a coach on the question – if you get stuck.
As you set about this glorious task – don’t forget our inspiration for all this, this season of spring and all that’s going on outside – the sheer impossible joy of buds and bounty. Take a walk – take five minutes to look out of the window – take a big gulp of fresh air – take spring and make the most of it. Intuitively we know how good being in nature makes us feel – but several recent scientific surveys have underpinned this fact. A topic I have written about before.
Finally, consider taking some risks – embrace the fact that this might mean failure but do it anyway. In this month that celebrates International Women’s Day – channel your inner Amelia…
“The most effective way to do it, is to do it.” —Amelia Earhart
So, I leave you this month with a hope that you’ll take a walk on the wild side,
forget New Year resolutions, springtime kicks January’s ass when it comes to new starts. Fresh beginnings.
